UHV Linear Shift Mechanism
General Information
Linear shift mechanisms enable motion of samples or devices along a single axis in vacuum. These are commonly used to position samples for vacuum processing such as thin film deposition, to introduce detectors in experiments, to insert apertures or shutters, or other purposes.
AJA International’s Linear Shift Mechanism has been proven by years of operation in the field. The LSM Series features a bellows with ConFlat (CF35) 2.75” OD flanges for mounting on standard vacuum chamber ports. The flanges are tapped for mounting inserted devices. The device features edge welded bellows and is bakeable to 130 °C for UHV operation. The bellows are demountable, as well. The device provides up to 200 mm linear motion range, driven by a handwheel with a rotating crank.
The main shaft is marked with rulings in 1 mm increments for positioning repeatability. The top block and moving carriage provide smooth, parallel motion. The brackets, block, carriage, and handwheel are anodized for a durable, corrosion resistant finish. The user can mount a rotary feedthrough or the like to the device to add additional motion in vacuum.
